Hey friends! 🌻

August in Omaha is all about soaking up the last golden days of summer, so before we all dive into fall decor and pumpkins, let’s show our homes a little late-summer love. This month’s checklist is quick and practical—even if you’re juggling back-to-school chaos or just trying to keep your garden tomatoes alive.

1. Give your deck one last glow-up.

Before the temps start to drop, take a few minutes to sweep, rinse, and re-seal your deck or patio. It will help protect the wood before we head into cooler weather, and it’ll look fab for those Labor Day get-togethers.

2. Inspect your attic for critter activity.

I know, not the most glamorous task. But this is prime time for squirrels and raccoons to sneak in and start house-hunting for fall. A quick flashlight check for droppings, nests, or weird smells can save you a whole lot of drama and money later.

3. Flush your hot water heater.

Sediment buildup is a sneaky energy waster—and with all that summer laundry (hello pool towels!), your water heater’s been working overtime. Give it a quick flush to keep it running smoothly into the colder months.

4. Clean out the bathroom vents.

Humidity builds up like crazy in August. Dusty or clogged bathroom fans won’t vent properly, which can lead to mold down the road. A quick vacuum or wipe-down of the vent cover can make a big difference.

5. Check fences and gates.

With storms and heavy summer winds, wooden fences can take a beating. Walk your perimeter, tighten hinges, and repair any wobbly posts before fall storms make things worse.

6. Deep clean the fridge + freezer.

Before we get into crockpot season (you know it’s coming!), give your fridge a little reset. Toss anything questionable (looking at you, mystery sauces), wipe down shelves, and make room for all that chili you’ll be batch cooking next month.

That’s it! Keep it simple, keep it consistent, and your home will love you back—promise.
