Hi friends — can you believe it’s already December? Omaha always feels a little more magical this time of year. Some of us are hopping from one party to the next, and others are soaking up quiet nights at home. Either way, this season has something special for all of us and I’ve created a list of simple ways to cherish the season.
Reflect on the Moments That Matter
In the middle of the sparkle and bustle, it important to pause and reflect. Start a simple holiday journal! Nothing fancy, just a place to jot down what made you smile this season. Ask your family or friends about their favorite part of this year’s celebrations and record their answers. Over time, you’ll have a beautiful collection of memories to look back on, a little reminder of how the season evolves and what stays wonderfully the same.
Bring the Outdoors In
There’s something about a real Christmas tree that just sets the mood. The scent, the glow, the whole experience of picking one out — it’s an instant dose of joy. Even a fresh wreath or a sprig of pine by the sink adds a bit of magic to your everyday life. Read my guide on where to buy real Christmas trees near Omaha!
Make Room for Your Kind of Fun
Keep it simple by warming up cocoa and driving around to see lights, or throw on your coziest holiday pajamas for a movie night. Spice it up by hosting a dinner party at your house, or get tickets to that holiday show you’ve been wanting to see! Whether your calendar is full or wide open, do the things that make you happy. I’ll be doing a mix of both! Ice skating, anyone?
Gift a Little Joy
You don’t need a huge budget or big plans to spread cheer. A handwritten note, a surprise latte for a friend, or a kind word to a stranger can totally make someone’s day. The best gifts are the ones that remind people they’re seen and loved. I have a friend who drops off a box of homemade goodies every year and it is always the best surprise!
Keep Old Traditions & Start New Ones
I love the grounding feeling that rituals bring when you keep them coming back year after year. Baking that old recipe, hanging meaningful ornaments, or having the same people around your dining table. But what if this season you started something new? Maybe it’s choosing a special story to read together every Christmas Eve, writing a note of gratitude to tuck into the tree, or taking a short walk after dinner to look at the neighborhood lights. Traditions don’t have to be big; they just have to feel like you.
Wishing you a cheerful, cozy, joy-filled December!
