Hey, Omaha friends! July is when summer really settles in — the Fourth of July fireworks have quieted down, the sun’s high, and our gardens are bursting. But while you’re soaking in those long evenings and backyard BBQs, don’t forget: your home needs some mid-summer love, too!

Here are a few July home maintenance to-dos to keep things running smoothly:

1. Wash Your Windows (Yes, Inside AND Out)

Summer sun is great — unless it’s trying to shine through dusty, smudged windows. Take a few hours this month to clean the inside and outside of your windows. You’ll be amazed at how much brighter your home feels. Pro tip: do this on a cloudy day to avoid streaks!

2. Check Driveways and Walkways for Cracks

The heat can be brutal on concrete and asphalt. Walk around your driveway and front walk — if you spot small cracks, seal them before rain and weeds make them worse. It’s one of those little things that keeps your curb appeal (and safety) in check.

3. Clean Out Window Wells

Got basement windows? Those little wells can collect leaves, trash, or even become a home for critters. Clear them out and check the drains — especially before the next summer downpour.

4. Clean That Grill

If your grill’s been your go-to all summer (hello, grilled corn and burgers season!), take a few minutes to give it a deep clean. It’ll cook more evenly and you’ll avoid flare-ups — plus, your guests won’t wonder what last week’s bratwurst is doing on their steak.

5. Prep for Storms

July often means pop-up thunderstorms in Nebraska. Trim back any overhanging branches, check your sump pump if you have one, and make sure your gutters and downspouts are clear and flowing away from your foundation. A little prep can prevent a big mess.

Enjoy your summer, Omaha — sunscreen on, cold drink in hand, and home in tip-top shape. I’ll see you back here next month!
